Understanding The Three Types Of Ants That Can Infest Your Home

Have you noticed ants that have found their way into your home? Not only are they quite annoying to deal with, but you will struggle with how to exterminate these pests and prevent them from coming back. Here is what you need to know about three types of ants that can infest your home, and how they are dealt with in different ways.

The Argentine Ant

You can identify an Argentine ant due to it's small body that is no more than 3mm long, and its brown colored body. You'll notice this ant enter your during the warm summer, since they are trying to get shade and stay away from the sun. Squashing an Argentine ant can even cause an odd odor to come from it. Since the Argentine ant seeks out sweet foods and moisture, you can easily prevent the ants from coming back to your home by eliminating what attracts them.

The Rover Ant

While a rover ant is going to have a brown body as well, it will be smaller than an Argentine ant at about half its length. You may even have a hard time seeing this specific type of ant, since it will run away if it sees something that threatens them. Thankfully, a rover ant will not create their nest in your home. Try setting out some ant traps that take bait back to their nest, and keep your kitchen free of crumbs so that they don't have food to come back for.

The Carpenter Ant

One ant that should be a big concern to you is the carpenter ant. It's big, with a body that is a quarter of an inch long. The body of the ant is also black, with a few species of carpenter ants being red. The carpenter ant moves slow, and often make their way to a kitchen or dining room. The problem is that they make nests in your home where there is a wooden structure. This is one ant that you should call a local pest control specialist to take care of, since they can damage structural components of your home if left alone.

If you're not sure about how to treat the ants inside your house, and your DIY techniques are not doing the trick of removing them, always know that a commercial pest control exterminator can visit your home and get rid of those ants once and for all.
